Switch to a professional account
Instagram Insights are available for Creator and Business accounts. Personal accounts can download account data, but they do not get the same analytics surfaces.
Instagram Insights are useful, but they are not always easy to export cleanly. This guide explains the practical routes for moving reach, engagement, follower growth, and audience data into a spreadsheet you can actually analyze.

Instagram Insights are available for Creator and Business accounts. Personal accounts can download account data, but they do not get the same analytics surfaces.
02
From your profile, open Professional dashboard or Insights. Desktop availability varies, so use the mobile app if you do not see the same controls.
03
Start with the longest useful range Instagram offers, then export smaller ranges if you need clean month-by-month reporting.
04
Capture reach, impressions, profile visits, follows, content interactions, and audience demographics where available.
05
Paste or export the metrics into Excel, Google Sheets, or CSV so you can build trend charts and campaign notes.
| Format | Best for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Excel | Dashboards, monthly reports, client updates | Manual copy/paste can introduce date and number formatting issues. |
| CSV | Clean tables, imports, charts, repeat reporting | CSV is plain text; notes and charts live outside the file. |
| JSON | Developer workflows and structured account data | Not every Insights metric appears as a simple JSON export. |
Insights tell you how content performed. Unfollio tells you how follower relationships changed from official export snapshots. Use both when you want to connect content performance with audience churn.
Instagram does not always provide a clean one-click Excel export for every account and metric. Many teams copy Insights into a spreadsheet or use Meta Business Suite where export options are available.
Your Instagram data download can include account data in structured files, but Insights analytics and public follower relationships are different datasets. Treat JSON exports as account data, not a full Insights dashboard replacement.
Unfollio focuses on follower relationships from the official export: who does not follow back, who unfollowed between snapshots, and related relationship lists.
